OVERSIZE NECKLACES

After the overwhelming enthusiasm for the huge gold Givenchy chains in yesterday's post, CC decided to dedicate a not insignificant amount of time to rounding up fall's oversize necklaces, both on the runways and in stores. Today's post has 2 PARTS: Huge Necklaces & Gold Necklaces! As always, runway first, then real way!

The trendsetter, of course: Givenchy! Photo at left via French Vogue online. According to the experts, though this appears to be a number of layered chains, it is actually one single necklace!!

Hot Cross!

CC is having a religious experience! Whether a jewel unto itself or a decorative element on a garment, the cross has been resurrected, and is being worshipped by design houses such as Lacroix, Givenchy, McQueen and Garrard.

The iconography of the cross is perhaps most comfortably ensconced in necklaces, as evinced by the multitude of crosses adorning Givenchy's runway chains, pictured at right.
Even the Project Runway designers got in on the trend (see red cross at left, via nymag.com).
This lovely Vania Nielsen crystal pearl Maltese cross necklace is currently on sale at intermixonline.com.

Or you can get the look quite inexpensively with this charm necklace from forever21.com.
The appeal of the cross has expanded to include other jewels as well:

How gorgeous are these Alexander McQueen bracelets, featured in French Vogue online?
CC is also drawn to this King Baby sterling silver crowned heart cross cuff. Visit chickdowntown.com.
And who wouldn't worship this Garrard black and white diamond ring? Delfina Delettrez makes a subversive statement with this gold, silver, onyx and diamond brooch by using a decorative serpent. This and previous photo via elle.com.
A more colorful rendition is offered by Jay Strongwater; get his cross pin at Bergdorf Goodman for just over a hundred dollars.
If jewels aren't your thing, wear an Ed Hardy cross-emblazoned crewneck tunic. Go to bluefly.com to buy on sale!

Or sport these Forever 21 Maltese cross shorts.
Subtler still, wear your crosses cleverly woven into the pockets of your Habitual Standard Glory Pocket bootcut jeans! Purchase at revolveclo-thing.com.

The Wet Look

It began for CC with Jean Paul Gaultier's Spring 2008 show, where both the models and their attire appeared drenched! Recall the seemingly sopping runway, pictured at right.
Whether achieved with leather, plastic, silk, polyurethane, patent, sequins, or polyester, fabrics were made to look, well . . . moist!
Balenciaga's coats for fall are SLICK!

The slippery silver bodice of this Balmain drop waist dress could douse the flames of its fiery pleated skirt!

Versace strapless dress

Alberta Ferretti shiny tank dress
Thakoon puffed cap sleeve frock and gloves

Givenchy jacket
Ruffian belted coat

Temperley London leather pants
It is perhaps most appropriate to channel the wet look via raingear!
How cute is this Maria Lizaso mod raincoat with Peter Pan collar?
Visit lolaymaria.com to purchase.
CC also highly recommends a fabulously shiny pair of Loeffler Randall Matilde flat wedge patent boots (below left).

Anlo's Willa straight leg jean is treated with polyure-thane for a slick, leather-like appear-ance. Both at shopbop.com.
Miguelina silver Caprice dress with black lace underlay, at shopbluegenes.com

Glovedup shiny black puff sleeved gloves . . . how fierce are these??
